A Note from Your Director of Residential Living at UIC

Hey everyone! My name is Steven Grosso and I'm your Director of Residential Living this summer. I'm originally from Bourbonnais, IL, about an hour south of Chicago and I went to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for undergrad. I'm a TFA alum, teaching Freshman English in St. Louis. I missed all my friends, family, and everything about Chicago (meaning pizza) when I was away, so I'm so excited to be back in the city I love. In my free time I love to read, binge watch shows on Netflix, watch the Cubs, and be outside. As the Director of Residential Living my role is to be your go-to person if you have any issues while living at UIC. Feel free to contact me about anything, from how I can make your summer home more comfortable, or any classroom advice you may want! I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody!

Review our 2017 Summer Training Housing, Dining, and Transportation Models document to learn more about what your options are for housing, dining, and transportation this summer.

You are required to review this in order to make an informed decision regarding your housing option for the summer by your designated deadline shared in your onboarding blast via our Personal Information Form.

This may be subject to small changes and in the event that it is updated you will be notified.

Note to Stipend Recipients: Teach For America is bound by the Internal Revenue Code and related regulations.  All institute stipends are subject to the appropriate Federal and State tax withholding, with respect to U.S. citizenship and residency status of the state in which the event is being held.

  • Any corps member that receives a stipend will be responsible for all applicable federal, state and local income taxes that may be due; Teach For America does not withhold taxes from stipends and they may be considered taxable income.

  • All corps member stipend recipients will receive IRS Form 1099-MISC from Teach For America (issued  January 2016) when total reportable payments in a calendar year exceed $600; this is the same process used for Transitional Grants as well.

  • Teach For America recommends that corps members seek advice from a tax professional concerning the tax implications and their responsibilities with reporting miscellaneous income including Institute Stipends and Transitional Grants.
